In 1959 Delhi Dismissed India's First Elected Communist Government. Nehru Called It "Not a Good Precedent" in a Letter Written the Day Before

At six in the evening on 31 July 1959 the President signed a Proclamation dismissing Kerala's Communist government, which still had its majority. The night before, Nehru wrote to the Governor that it was "not a good precedent" and that the Opposition "did not have clean hands". A month earlier his party's board told its Kerala unit to demand elections. Police firings killed at least ten people in two days in June, by one count, and we found no official toll. An American ambassador later wrote that the CIA gave the Congress money for a Kerala election. As read into Parliament, he said nothing about funding the agitation.
